Bringing barrels back to the Borders

The Borders Distillery is the first distillery in the Scottish Borders since 1837. We love innovation (and the odd dram) so were excited when they asked us to work with them to help launch their venture and bring whisky back to the borders.

Now 6 years into the venture, the new make is maturing very nicely and so is our relationship. A few websites, films, campaigns and cask tracking mobile apps later and we continue to work with the team at the Borders to tell their story and deliver all digital elements of an exciting new brand.

With a playful approach to design and experience, working with the team at the Borders Distillery is never dull. Always in the Borders, never on the fence, the distillery takes a pioneering approach to a very long standing process.

A industry-bucking gender and age distribution it’s about building a local team to do things a little differently and it’s a pleasure to tell their story.

The Process

With a big empty building in Hawick to fit a distillery into and then at least 3 years before whatever the distillery produced could be called whisky, it started with building a brand.

Building an online home for the team to tell their story with and building a cask tracking mobile app for their cask membership programme we got off to a flying start and the team had a digital offering from the off.

With the impressive distillery complete and the potential to use it like a drink concocting laboratory, the Borders team set to work.

An award winning botanical steamed gin and a charcoal filtered vodka soon followed as well as an e-commerce offering to make them available to the world.

Aligning with the Borders strategy, delivering their digital products and exploring ways to share their story, video content, campaigns and micro sites have followed

The Outcome

Regular sessions to identify opportunities and requirements keep projects on track and creativity flowing to create an engaging and playful brand.

There’s always something in the pipeline and some idea hatching that’s as exciting and innovative as their drinks.

Whisky is very much back in the Borders and we cannot wait for the release of their first single malt.

So raise a glass to an innovative, sustainable, community-led distillery. We’ve already raised many!

“The Daysix team are always on hand to offer support, advice, and creativity. Their can-do attitude has allowed us to maintain a fun, flexible and open approach to developing our brand. The Daysix team feel like an extension of my own.”
